The Power of AI: Building a Website with v0

There's no denying the power of AI. In 2024, the U.S. invested over $100 billion in AI advancement, and its day-to-day use is only increasing.

Think about it — 5 years ago, how often were you turning to Chat GPT, Copilot, or some other AI tool? Now, chances are you use it somewhat regularly. According to a report published by Pew Research Center on AI in American lives, both awareness and day-to-day use of AI has increased rapidly over the last three years. Their data points to just over 60% of adults using AI at least several times a week.

This rise in adoption isn't just about convenience — it's about possibility. AI is no longer limited to background tasks; it's becoming a partner in creativity, problem-solving, and even business building. One tool I recently discovered, called v0, is a great example. It's a generative AI platform that makes website building easier than ever before.

In this post, I'll walk through what v0 is, how I use it, and how I plan to leverage it to grow my personal brand. For the demo, I'll be showcasing the very first website I built with v0 — for Revere, a civic engagement startup I'm working on. (You can read more about it on my website.)

What is v0?

v0 is an AI-powered tool that can turn prompts into prototypes, interfaces, or even full websites. Think about it like ChatGPT for website building – you put in some instruction, and v0 spits out its interpretation of your prompt. Just like with any generative AI, it's important to be as specific as possible so that you get precise results.

v0 offers 4 tiers of service, but everything shown here was done on the free version.

Before you do anything, it's important to have a solid idea of what you want your website to look like. This includes how many pages it should have on it, any visual or written media that you want to include, color scheme, etcetera.

Once you have your idea, using another AI tool such as ChatGPT to write your prompt can be helpful. Here's what I put into ChatGPT for Revere, and what it gave me.

My prompt for ChatGPT:

I'm inputting a prompt into v0 the website builder, and you are an expert v0 prompt generator. I need it to be as accurate as possible. It should have a color scheme of primary color #364a67 secondary color of #eeeeee, and an accent of #ffab40. On the page, the name of the project is Revere, and that should be nice and big. Under, it should have our tagline: Amplify your organization's voice (highlight voice). it should also include this: Revere is the platform that gives advocacy organizations the tools to amplify their message by connecting them with passionate citizens that want to have an impact. Under that, in another section, it should say that we are currently in the process of building the site and app, with goals to launch in january 2026. there should be another page that includes an about section, with space to fill in info for 4 founding members, and one design partner. That should include an image, a title, an about (school, major) and a place to put our socials (linkedin, portfolio website). It should be modern, but stylish.

ChatGPT's prompt for Revere Website v1:

Build a modern, stylish website for Revere using the following color scheme: Primary: #364a67, Secondary: #eeeeee, Accent: #ffab40. Homepage: Hero section with the name Revere in large, bold type. Directly below, display the tagline: Amplify your organization's voice (highlight the word voice in accent color #ffab40). Below the tagline, include this description in clean, centered text: Revere is the platform that gives advocacy organizations the tools to amplify their message by connecting them with passionate citizens that want to have an impact. Add a separate section under the description with text stating: We are currently in the process of building the site and app, with goals to launch in January 2026. About Page: A section introducing the project. A team layout with space for 4 founding members and 1 design partner.

After putting the prompt in, this is what v0 gave me:

Figure 2: Revere Website v1

Pretty good, right? It only took a few minutes to generate, and it gave me a solid skeleton to build from.

From here, I wanted to refine a couple of things. First, the "Learn More About Our Mission" button on the homepage linked nowhere, and I wanted it to link back to the "About" page. Easy enough, right?

Revere Website v2 prompt:

Please make the "learn more about our mission" button link to the about page. Also please put in placeholder images for the founding team and design partner cards. we want to be able to change them please.

Figure 3: Revere Website v2

Well, not exactly. It's important to be as detailed as possible with your prompts, otherwise v0 may interpret them in a way you did not anticipate. This can lead to unwanted changes, such as the removal of the navigation bar at the top of my example.

To fix these issues, I had v0 restore the previous version (Revere Website v1), creating Revere Website v3. This can be confusing, as v1 and v3 are identical, just named differently.

For v4, I wanted to fix the "Learn More About Our Mission Button", and make the "About" page customizable.

Revere Website v4 prompt:

This looks really good. Keep all code/elements as they are please. The only things to add are: 1. Make the learn more about our mission button an additional link to the about page, and 2. make the images for the founders and design partner profiles placeholder images

Figure 4: Revere Website v4

Much better! I was able to navigate all sections of the site effectively, it's easy to digest, and I was able to customize the details on the "About" page using the "design" feature in the v0 user interface.

This entire process was completed in under an hour, and produced a professional, branded, and personalized website with very minimal effort.

Conclusion

AI tools like v0 show just how far technology has come in making once-complex tasks accessible to anyone with an idea. What used to take days of coding, designing, and debugging can now be done in less than an hour and produce results that are modern, functional, and easy to customize. For me, v0 isn't just a tool for building websites, it's a way to quickly test ideas, create polished digital spaces, and keep momentum behind the projects I care about most. As AI continues to evolve, I'm excited to keep experimenting with how these tools can push creativity, branding, and civic engagement forward.
